After an initial career in advertising, Laurent Bibas chose to devote himself entirely to painting, developing a deeply sensory body of work in his Normandy studio. His practice explores material in all its richness: tar, bitumen, walnut stain, oils, and even charred wood using a technique inspired by the Japanese Shou Sugi Ban method.
Influenced by the intensity of Pierre Soulages and the chromatic strength of Nicolas de Staël, he creates abstract works where textures and reliefs interact with light. Deep shades of black, blue, green, and grey evoke inner landscapes, somewhere between Norman memories and Mediterranean horizons.
“Matter is memory: it preserves the traces of gesture, time, and emotion.”
This exhibition holds a particularly special meaning for our Maison. One of our most loyal guests, Laurent Bibas has been staying at Grandes Rousses Hotel & Spa since childhood. Over the years, sincere bonds have been formed, making his presence feel entirely natural. This invitation is a tribute to the story of our House: one of encounters, loyalty, and shared memories, passed down and enriched over time.
